This Sunday the Friends of Greenville Greenways (FROGGS) will hold its fifth annual Treasure Hunt and Greenway Fun Day.

The event will include games and the EC Velo Club will have a 3 mile tour of the tour of the South Tar River Greenway at 2:30 p.m. 

The event is this Sunday, April 26 from 2-4 p.m. It will be held at the Green Springs Park on Fifth Street.

This is a quick and fast update for you all, but the Farmville Dogwood Festival starts today, Friday April 24. It runs through Sunday, April 26th.

Head on over to Farmville this weekend! The weather will be in the high 80s so you all the wonderful ice cream treats will taste delicious! Along with the tasty treats, you can enjoy all the entertainment, arts and crafts, shopping, and rides.

This coming weekend and next weekend is the 2009 Parade of Homes for Pitt County in Eastern North Carolina.

Some of these beautiful homes are only open for the first weekend, so make sure you get out there and take a look at them. You can view the full site of houses available to walk through and detailed information on what weekends they are open.

The Parade of Homes is this weekend April 25 and 26, along with the following weekend of May 2 and 3. The show hours are from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Governor Sarah Palin will be in Greenville, NC this coming Tuesday, October 7. She will be speaking at the Minges Coliseum on the East Carolina Campus. 

The Republican base around Greenville is extremely excited. People lined up at the Republican headquarters this morning to only be turned away as tickcets were gone by noon. It sounded like the headquarters got the tickets a day early, and the early birds got the tickets.  

There was around 2,300 tickets for the locals, and the remaining 5,700 tickets were dispensed around the state of North Carolina. A lot of people who didn’t get tickets are hoping there will be a lot of no shows for this Tuesday’s event. 

The doors will open at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7 at Minges on the ECU Campus.

The Ayden, NC Collard Festival starts Monday, September 1, 2008! This festival is now over 34 years old and is always held the week after labor day weekend.

The festival is a full week of fun for everyone. It will have lots of food, games, rides, events, parades, vendors, arts and crafts, and live music.

The first ever televised MMA event is coming to Greenville this Saturday. It is “Fight to the Finish II” by the Amateur Fight League.The AFL is the premier amateur Mixed Martial Arts in the region televising all the events to give it’s fighters maximum exposure.  

There will be a total of 15 fights featuring a lightweight title fight between Chris Ballance and Josh Miller. Along with the fights, a ring girl and model search contest will also be held.

The event takes place on Saturday, August 30 at the Greenville Convention Center on 303 S.W. Greenville Blvd. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets are $24.95-$64.95 or $500 for a ring-side table. Join Melanie Sparks tonight at the Tipsy Teapot with her sweet voice. Music will range from Queen to Ani DiFranco and everything in between, but it will mostly be the originals.

I couldn’t find too much info about Melanie Sparks except she has a great voice and works over at PittCC.edu as a teacher in the IT Department.

The Carolina Skies Astronomy Club will be holding another stargaze this Saturday night.

There will be a brief program on “Galaxies Beyond our Milky Way” which will be followed by an evening of looking through telescopes. You can bring your own or use the club members’ telescopes.

Today is the first day of the 23rd Annual 2008 Winterville, NC Watermelon Festival!

The festival will have lots of watermlon and food, live music, rides, and concerts.

It is a three day festival that starts today August 21 and lasts through Saturday night August 23.

Tonight, the 2008 Watermelon Festival Pageant will be held at South Central High School. Admission is $7.

Most of the events and concerts are free, but the final concert on Saturday night with Jack Ingram and Bucky Covington at the A.G. Cox Athletic Complex will be $10 for tickets. The doors open at 6 p.m., and it begins at 7 p.m.
