East Carolina University Billy Jazz Festival

Are you Jazzy?

The East Carolina University School of Jazz will be holding its annual Billy Taylor Jazz Festival starting April 24 through April 26.

Pianist, composer, and arranger Geri Allen and pianist Billy Taylor will be in a variety of concerts and events! Along with mingling and socializing with all your jazz friends, this jazz festival will have three free public concerts, a free jam session, and critiquing sessions for middle and high school jazz bands.

Now on to the schedule of events!

Thursday, April 24 at 8 p.m.

  • Concert: ECU Jazz ‘Bones in Concert FREE
    Location:
    Glennon’s Club at the Greenville Hilton

Thursday, April 24 at 10 p.m.

  • Event: International Association of Jazz Educators Jam Session
    with ECU Jazz Combos FREE
    Location:
    Glennon’s Club at the Greenville Hilton

Friday, April 25

  • 10:00 AM: FREE Jazz Improv Clinic with Geri Allen and ECU’s Contemporary Jazz Ensemble (Ernest Turner, director)
    Location:
    ECU School of Music, A.J. Fletcher Music Center, Room 105
  • 11:30 AM: FREE Informal Jazz Discussion with Dr. Billy Taylor
    Location:
    ECU School of Music, A.J. Fletcher Music Center, Room 105
  • 3:00 PM: FREE Sound check/rehearsal: Jazz Ensemble A & Geri Allen
    Location: Greenville Convention Center
  • 8:00 PM: Must Have Tickets Concert: ECU Jazz Ensemble A with Geri Allen, and ECU Jazz Faculty
    Location: Greenville Convention Center

Saturday, April 26

  • (all-day event, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM) Critiques of middle and high school Jazz ensembles from North Carolina and Virginia
  • 8:00 PM: Must Have Tickets Gala Concert: Featuring Geri Allen accompanied by the ECU Jazz Faculty
